How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, 34 U.S.C. § 11101 et seq., (the "Act"), provides, at 11133(f), that the Administrator (the "Administrator") of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention ("Office") shall provide support to an eligible organization composed of member representatives of the state advisory groups to assist such organization in carrying out its functions, which include the provision of advice to the President, the Congress, and the Administrator, under the terms set forth in 34 U.S.C. § 11133(f)(2)(C)-(E).
How is membership balanced?*The FACJJ will be composed of 14 member representatives of the State Advisory Groups appointed under 34 U.S.C. § 11133(a)(3). No member may serve more than two-year terms (four years total) on the FACJJ (including any successor advisory committee formed pursuant to Title II of the Act), except as specified in the By-Laws of the FACJJ.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee meets at least twice a year and typically up to four times a year. Generally, one or two in-person and one or two webinar meeting are convened to carry out the duties identified in the charter and otherwise as required. In addition, subcommittees convene teleconferences to support the activities of the FACJJ.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Section 241(f) of the JJDP Act mandates that the Administrator of OJJDP provide funds for this committee. In accordance with the JJDPA, the FACJJ plays a critical role in ensuring that OJJDP, the Congress, and the President are aware of state concerns pertinent to juvenile justice and related issues.
