How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*By sharing opinions in a public forum, in addition to hearing from other experts on the various methodologies that exist for projecting Medicare expenditures, the panel will produced a written report recommending methodologies to the Medicare Trustees for making such projections.
How is membership balanced?*There are a variety of experts representing the points of view of actuaries and economists. The membership was balanced between private sector interests and academic interests. Additionally, the panel had both male and female members.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The meetings occurred monthly .
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Medicare Trustees project Medicare costs and revenue over a 75 year period. The methodology and assumptions continue to evolve in response to the changing health care system. Health experts, including health economists and actuaries,, provide independent, expert input and review of methods and assumptions and provide the Secretary, as a Trustee, with recommendations for improvement.
