How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	This Committee provided guidance and made recommendations in areas of diabetes translation, including policy issues and strategies for activities, and diabetes control programs designed to reduce risk factors, health services utilization, costs, morbidity, and mortality associated with diabetes and its complications. The Committee provided advice to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the development of quantitative and qualitative methods for needs assessment, program development, and evaluation of the state-based Diabetes Control Programs (DCP); on improving the health system; identifying translation issues related to science; conducting economic studies on interventions; screening issues related to undiagnosed diabetes; and translation issues and policy implications related to under-served populations.
How is membership balanced?*	The Committee provided a forum for a highly respected group of experts with a wide variety of scientific, programmatic, and social perspectives to provide advice on a broad range of diabetes-related issues. Meetings brought together authorities knowledgeable in the fields of public health, state health departments, academia, epidemiology, diabetology, health care financing, health policy, managed care, health education, health communications and community program development. These authorities included researchers, health care practitioners, experts in policy development, leaders in the academic community and managed care fields, and public health officials from throughout the Nation and from diverse ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations.
