How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*In FY 18, CHPAC held two plenary meetings on topics of importance to EPA regarding children's health. Additionally, one advice letter was provided to the agency.
How is membership balanced?*CHPAC is composed of representatives from industry, private foundations, pediatricians, obstetricians, occupational doctors, nurses, scientists, environmental organizations, citizens organizations/networks, environmental justice community, state/local/tribal governments, outreach groups and citizens-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*CHPAC meets approximately one to three times per year. This committee is needed to assist the Agency in the development of regulations, guidance, and policies to address children's environmental health issues. CHPAC brings external stakeholders together to provide advice from a variety of points of view.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Outside perspectives are needed from stakeholders in this area to assist in development of regulations, guidance and policies to address children's health; to advise on the research needed to address risks faced by infants and children related to environmental exposures. There is no other existing advisory committee in the Agency devoted to the protection of children's environmental health. These activities need continuous attention that is provided by the work groups and could not be done through public hearings.
Why close or partially close meetings? No meetings were closed to the public.
Recommendation RemarksAll members are Tier 1 (parent committee members). There are no Tier 2 (subcommittee) members serving.

% of Recs Fully Implemented CommentThe exact percentage of recommendations above that have or will be fully implemented is difficult to estimate because the nature of policy recommendations are such that it often takes a long time to implement new policy due to changing agency priorities and resources. To our best estimate, approximately one-third of the CHPAC's recommendations are currently being implemented. Furthermore, all regional and program offices, as well as many other federal and state government agencies, have sought to address the specific issues raised in the recommendations. Finally, the CHPAC's recommendations and meetings have been instrumental in wide-spread education of EPA senior managers and staff regarding the environmental and public health concerns affecting children and pregnant women. This education has brought about significant behavioral change within the Agency and a commensurate increase in the public's trust in and goodwill toward the Agency.Access GSA FACA WebsiteYes
