How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management directs the Board to provide input, advice, and recommendations on various programmatic issues. In FY 2018, the Board focused on the topics of the CRESP Risk Review, Regulatory Reform, and innovation challenge options. In support of its mission, members met on May 16, 2018, and September 11, 2018, in open, public meetings to discuss and obtain information from appropriate senior EM managers. Board members also form subcommittees to research each topic and dialogue with the relevant EM program offices and officials. The information and insights gained from these efforts is used to develop formal reports and recommendations to the Assistant Secretary. All reports and recommendations are reviewed, discussed, and voted on by the full Board during EMAB's public meetings.
How is membership balanced?*Board members represent a variety of experience and expertise, including that of regulatory agencies, business and industry, academia, professional associations, and state, local, and tribal governments. In addition, the Board seeks assistance and input from stakeholder representatives and technical consultants.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The full Board meets semi-annually or as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Secretary. Board subcommittees may meet more frequently, depending on their charge. In FY 2018, EMAB held two public meetings. During full Board meetings, proposed recommendations to the Assistant Secretary are discussed and agreed upon in an open, public forum. These meetings also provide an opportunity for private citizens and other interested audiences that are not members of the Board to discuss issues relevant to the EM program.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*EMAB is the advisory body charged with providing advice and recommendations directly to the Assistant Secretary on corporate issues related to the entire EM program. These issues include, but are not limited to: project management and oversight activities, cost/benefit analyses, program performance, human capital development, science and technology, and contracts and acquisition strategies.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
Recommendation RemarksEMAB's mission is continuing in nature.
