How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Carrizo Plain National Monument Advisory Committee (MAC) provides advice and develops recommendations regarding policies, programs, and long-range planning for the management and use of the National Monument. It gathers and analyzes information, hears public testimony, and develops recommendations including, but not limited to, the development and implementation of the Management Plan, establishment of resource management priorities, establishment of landscape goals and objectives, development of ecosystem approaches to management, and support of educational, cultural, recreational, interpretive and volunteer programs.
How is membership balanced?*Members include representatives of the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, the Kern County Board of Supervisors, the Carrizo Native American Advisory Committee, the BLM's Central California Resource Advisory Council, those authorized to graze livestock within the National Monument, and the public-at-large. Members have expertise through education or practical experience in matters relating to the purposes for which the Monument was established, including planning, cultural resource protection, natural resource management, and similar disciplines.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Monument Advisory Committee advice and recommendations are very relevant to the continued management of the Monument. The continued involvement of and contribution from the Advisory Committee contributed to the successful publication of the approved Carrizo Plain National Monument Resource Management Plan (RMP) in April 2010. The MAC continues to be involved in implementation of the RMP.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The formation of this committee was required by the Secretary of the Interior after the Carrizo Plain National Monument was established by Presidential Proclamation.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the BLM California website, and distributed to local newspapers.
Recommendation RemarksThe Carrizo Plain National Monument Advisory Committee did not meet in FY18. The MAC will be ready to meet next year to discuss the draft travel management plan.
