How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Idaho Falls District RAC provides representative citizen counsel and advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the Bureau of Land Management’s designated Federal officer concerning the planning and management of the public land resources located within the geographic area of the BLM's Idaho Falls District. The RAC develops recommendations for the BLM regarding the preparation, amendment, and implementation of land use plans for the public lands and resources within the jurisdiction of the RAC. This requires the RAC to gather and analyze information, conduct studies and field examinations, hear public testimony, and ascertain facts relating to the issues.
How is membership balanced?*The Idaho Falls Resource Advisory Council is composed of 15 members distributed in a balanced fashion among the following groups: Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development; Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups; Category III includes state, county, or locally elected office-holders, employee of a State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized, are employed as academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences, or represent the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Idaho Falls RAC did not meet in FY 2020 but generally met about three times per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Idaho Falls District RAC is an essential part of the public outreach of the BLM's-Idaho Falls District. It assists in various projects that require the views and opinions of the public, such as in National Environmental Policy Act analysis and resource management planning. The BLM's Idaho Falls District RAC supports the mission of the BLM by providing feedback on critical issues facing natural resources. The RAC has been most interested and useful on the issues of noxious weed management, off-highway vehicle use, land use planning, threatened/endangered species management, and recreation fee review. In addition, the group has provided solid problem-solving advice to sensitive issues reoccurring throughout all four field offices.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public.
Recommendation RemarksNo meetings were held in FY 2020.

The Idaho Falls District (2057) Resource Advisory Council (RAC) was consolidated with Boise (2055), Coeur d’Alene (2056) and Twin Falls District (25121) RACs into a single Idaho Resource Advisory Council (84604) effective September 23, 2020.
