How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The purpose of the Committee is to assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive management plan for the Wekiva River System and provide advice to the Secretary in carrying out the management responsibilities of the Secretary under the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River Act (16 U.S.C. 1274).
How is membership balanced?*As prescribed by the enabling legislation, the 18-member Committee is comprised of representatives from various agencies and organizations specifically named in the legislation spanning three counties. Since the Committee was formed, there was a unanimous vote to include representatives from The Nature Conservancy to join the Committee.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee meets approximately four to six times a year or more to discuss implementation projects relative to the comprehensive management plan and issues relevant to the Wekiva River System.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee is to assist in the development of the comprehensive management plan for the Wekiva River System and provide advice to the Secretary in carrying out the management responsibilities of the Secretary under the Wild and Scenic River Act (16 U.S.C. 1274)

Number Of Recommendations CommentThe Committee met twice in FY 2018, and had 4 recommendations. Committee Recommendations included: Review and Approval of final scope of the User Capacity Study. Finalize and advertise position of the River Ambassador for education and outreach activities. Implement a stormdrain stenciling program. Develop and Print a Black Water Creed Paddling Trail Guide for outdoor recreation. The Committee met twice in FY 2017, and had 4 recommendations. Committee Recommendations: NPS will coordinate with partners to:1. develop scope of work for User Capacity Study for the Wekiva River; 2. Conduct User Capacity Study for the Wekiva River (after final scope is developed); 3. develop River Ambassador position description (education and outreach duties); and4. advertise for River Ambassador (position) for the Wekiva River. In 2016, the Committee did met in November 2015 and March 2016 and made several recommendations. For the remainder of 2016, all member appointments needed to be updated so information was gathered for new appointments and renewal appointments. The Committee plans on meeting in 2017. In 2016, the Committee had several new recommendations from the strategic planning meeting held in November 2015. The Committee recommended the continuation of funding the River Ambassador position for developing and implementing education, and outreach programs to benefit the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System. The Committee recommended the updating of the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River website. As well as the following recommendations for FY17:Develop New Cooperative Agreement between NPS and FOWR, Inc.Develop New Wekiva Wild & Scenic Powerpoint for River Ambassador public presentations Develop Wekiva Wild and Scenic River Partnership Success ReportCoordinate Signage meeting with FDOT AND County Transportation Depts. to implement Wild and Scenic logo on roadways within central Florida providing branding and access to the Wekiva Wild and Scenic RiverComplete Development, Manufacturing and Installation of Wekiva Kiosks and Educational Panels (with destination signs at launch areas)Coordinate Wekiva Event (Kiosks and Panels Dedication) for the NPS CentennialCommittee Chair and NPS to attend the Partnership W&S Rivers Meeting in 2017River Ambassador to coordinate presentations to the local govt’sEstablish Monitoring to ensure protection of the ORV’s. These projects were directly related to actions and goals stated within the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River Comprehensive Management Plan. These included: the Wekiva Black Bear Study and the Wekiva educational kiosks, which will be installed in 2016. The Committee continued to develop implementation projects which further enhance the ORV's based on the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River Comprehensive River Management Plan which was dedicated on May 17, 2012. The Committee is developing and implementing several projects: 1) The continued funding of the Wekiva River System Management River Ambassador to conduct education and outreach programs relative to the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System. 2) the Committee coordinating a strategic planning meeting to prioritize projects and programs for 2017. 3) the Committee completed the design of 29 educational panels for display in areawide river launch areas along with the manufacturing of kiosks to display the panels.Access Agency WebsiteYes

Agency Feedback CommentAs representatives of the agency we do provide feedback, in person, at each meeting.Narrative Description*The Committee will advise the agency on the implementation of the comprehensive river management plan. Through cooperative effort among several agencies and organizations, the Committee will advise in the development, planning and implementation of management plan actions which will allow for the continued preservation and enhanced recreational opportunities of the Wekiva River System, without any further degradation of the resource, for future generations to enjoy. The Committee is implementing actions of the Comprehensive River Management Plan which was finalized on May 17, 2012.
