How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The purpose of the ACA was to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Labor on strengthening the national apprenticeship system to meet the needs of business and workers in the 21st Century. The committee accomplished this goal by holding regular meetings with agendas that were prepared with guidance from the Department of Labor's Office of Apprenticeship and the Department on ways to better utilize the apprenticeship training model to provide career pathways to family-sustaining jobs for everyone.
How is membership balanced?*The ACA was comprised of a diverse group of individuals, membership ranged from 27-30 representatives, as required by its charter, balanced representation from employers, labor, and the public. The charter also required representation from The National Association of State and Territorial Apprenticeship Directors (NASTAD), and the National Association of Governmental Labor Officials (NAGLO). In addition, membership was further balanced through the appointment terms of 1 or 2 years, and all members served at the pleasure of the Secretary of Labor.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The ACA typically met 2-3 times annually, pending the availability of funds.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The ACA was necessary because it represented the interest of the diverse constituencies and stakeholders in the National Apprenticeship system.
Why close or partially close meetings? All ACA meetings were open to the public.
