How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The RAC provides representative citizen counsel and advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the Bureau of Land Management’s designated Federal officer concerning the planning and management of the public land resources located within the geographic area of the BLM's Twin Falls District and a small portion of land in northern Nevada located within the Jarbidge Field Office.
How is membership balanced?*The Twin Falls District Resource Advisory Council is composed of 7 members distributed in a balanced fashion among the following groups. Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development. Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups. Category III includes State, county, or locally elected office-holders, employee of a State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized, are employed as academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences, or represent the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Generally, the Twin Falls District RAC met approximately four times annually. The first meeting welcomes new members and reviews the past year's work/involvement. Future meetings are generally scheduled during the current meeting by the RAC chairman or meetings can be scheduled when new or ongoing issues require RAC consideration. Relevance to pertinent management problems is ensured before a meeting is scheduled. The meetings provide the RAC members with the chance to review information and form recommendations. As the Twin Falls District RAC has not had a quorum of members, the RAC has not met since January of 2018.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The RAC represents a wide variety of public land users and others interested in the management of the public lands. There is no other single group that can provide this representation.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the BLM Idaho website, and distributed to local media outlets.
Recommendation RemarksThe Twin Falls RAC did not meet in FY 2019, but did incur staff time costs processing applications from the 2019 National Call for Nominations.
