Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. See the Data From Previous Years section at the bottom of this page for the committee’s historical, verified data.

Details on agency responses to committee recommendations can be found under the Performance Measures section for each committee in the fields “Agency Feedback” and “Agency Feedback Comment.”

How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The TAC will provide technical advice to the Federal Communications Commission and make recommendations on the issues and questions presented to it by the FCC. The TAC will also address questions that are referred to the Council by the FCC Chairman, or by the FCC Chief Technologist or Chief Engineer. The questions directed to TAC will relate to technological and technical issues in the field of communications. TAC members will conduct the necessary research and, otherwise, gather the information necessary to carry out these activities.
How is membership balanced?*Members have been selected to balance the expertise and viewpoints that are necessary to address effectively the new technology issues that will be directed to TAC. Members are recognized experts in their fields and, for private sector companies, individuals who hold technical executive positions such as Chief Technical Officer or Senior Technical Manager.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Three meetings were held during the fiscal year. During meetings, members should be prepared for vigorous debate with their peers on TAC as well as with FCC staff. The opportunity for this debate will help to clarify issues and improve the recommendations of TAC.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Rapid advances in technology have resulted in innovations in how telecommunications services are provided to, and are accessed by, users of these services. Many of these advances are increasing the rate of convergence among categories of services that have traditionally been viewed as distinct, such as cable television services, telephony, data services, and internet services. Regulations must be examined in light of these technology advances, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) must remain abreast of these new developments in technology so that it can effectively fulfill its responsibilities under the Communications Act. The Commission must rely on outside expertise, such as in the forum provided by TAC, to stay abreast of these developments.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
