How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Working Group shall provide the BTS Director with independent advice and recommendations on matters, as specifically outlined in Section 6018 of P.L. 114-94:(a) Identify a generally accepted industry standard for port data collection and reporting.(b) Specify standards for collecting data and reporting port performance measures.(c) Make recommendation for statistics on U.S. port capacity and throughput.(d) Develop a process for DOT to collect timely and consistent data, including identifying safeguards to protect certain proprietary information.DOT has gathered a group of experts and representatives to review and make recommendations on the tasks specified by statute.
How is membership balanced?*As required by 49 U.S.C. 6314(c), the Working Group includes representatives and experts from various stakeholders interested in port performance, including: port authorities, terminal operators, labor unions, land and maritime shipping companies, and numerous Government agencies.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Working Group is the body that brings together the expertise in port operations and statistics to address the issues required by Congress.
