How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee made recommendations for standardizing, clarifying and upgrading terminology and procedures as a result of its review of present air traffic control (ATC) procedures and practices. The Committee held two meetings in FY2016, during which they reviewed the adequacy of information concerning the application of ATC procedures . The Committee identified Areas of Concern (AOC) which addressed the work to be completed. All AOCs for which the Committee was responsible have been closed.
How is membership balanced?*The ATPAC consisted of representatives from organizations selected by the FAA as most representative of the various viewpoints of aviation and airspace users representing civil and military operators, air traffic controllers, industry and safety organizations. The FAA ensured a membership that was fairly balanced in terms of points of view of those represented and the functions to be performed by the ATPAC. To ensure the recommendations of the ATPAC took into account the needs of diverse groups served by the department, membership included, to the extent practicable, individuals or organizations representing minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. Subject matter experts participated in the Committee as required to address the specific items on each agenda.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Committee meetings were held as needed, approximately twice yearly. The level of expertise and balanced viewpoint of the committee enabled early identification of potential problem areas and accelerated early corrective action, thereby creating greater safety and public confidence in the Nation's air transportation system.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The members of the Air Traffic Procedures Advisory Committee represented the airspace users and air traffic service providers in the National Airspace System. The views represented and the action taken by the Committee ensured the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of all aircraft in the National Airspace System.
