How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The HIT Standards Committee holds public meetings once a month, and provides recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health IT on standards, certification criteria and implementation specifications. The HITSC uses its taskforces to assist in the preparation of findings and recommendations.
How is membership balanced?*The HIT Standards Committee reflects a broad range of stakeholders, including providers, ancillary healthcare workers, consumers, purchasers, health plans, technology vendors, researchers, relevant federal agencies, and individuals with technical expertise on health care quality, privacy and security, and on the electronic exchange and use of health information. Additional considerations were given to a broad representation of geographic areas, gender, race, ethnicity, and disability. Every effort was made to fill advisory committee membership by U.S. citizens.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The HIT Standards Committee met 10 times and its taskforces met an estimated 50 times to prepare and provide recommendations in a timely manner.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The HIT Standards Committeee is required under the ARRA legislation and is an invaluable resource. Through the open meetings and hearings, the HITSC promotes transparency in ONC standards development and builds support and ownership among key private sector stakeholders in ONC policy and programs. It is a direct channel for private and public sector health IT leaders and the public to have direct input into Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) policies and regulations.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
Recommendation RemarksIn accordance with the 21st Century Cures Act, the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (#2622) replaced both the HIT Standards Committee (# 43018) and the HIT Policy Committee (#43019).
