How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Since 1995, the Committee has met biannually as a whole, and as subcommittees, to provide general policy advice to the Attorney General and Secretary of Health and Human Services on implementation of the Violence Against Women Act, the Violence Against Women Act of 2000, and related legislation. In FY2010, in the Department of Justice will re-establish the Committee with a specific focus on successful interventions with children and teens who witness and/or are victimized by intimate partner violence and sexual violence.
How is membership balanced?*The membership of the re-established Committee will reflect a balanced representation of perspectives and interests, consisting of approximately 15 members representing victim services, the health professions, law enforcement, prosecution, and other professions addressing the crimes of violence against women, with a specific focus on successful interventions with children and teens who witness and/or are victimized by intimate partner violence and sexual violence.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The re-established Committee holds meetings only as necessary to finalize the advice and recommendations that the members have been developing.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Committee members represent a broad spectrum of non-federal actors addressing the issue of crimes of violence against women in local communities. The purpose of this committee is to seek the views, advice, and ideas of non-federal actors in the prevention of violence against women, initiatives to improve community responses, and the prosecution of violent crimes against women, a specific focus on successful interventions with children and teens who witness and/or are victimized by intimate partner violence and sexual violence.
