How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The NAC/AEGL previously completed its work and terminated September 30, 2011. The NAC/AEGL did not meet in in fiscal year 2011.
How is membership balanced?*The NAC/AEGL previously completed its work and terminated September 30, 2011. The NAC/AEGL did not meet in in fiscal year 2011. Previously the NAC/AEGL maintained members that represent federal government, state government, private industry, labor unions, medical organizations, and environmental concerns. Members agreed upon scientific validity of AEGL values as the overiding goal to establish scientifically sound chemical emergency programs that protect human health through valid prediction of vulnerability (hazard) zones. This enabled legitimate focusing of emergency response during a chemical accident.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The NAC/AEGL previously completed its work and terminated September 30, 2011. The NAC/AEGL did not meet in in fiscal year 2011.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Previously the NAC/AEGL provided a forum for the utilization of judgement and debate amongst federal, state, private sector and environmentalist representatives, amongst others. In addition, the committee setting provided a transparent process to the public. AEGLs also help support chemical counter-terrorism programs in the U.S.
Why close or partially close meetings?The NAC/AEGL previously completed its work and terminated September 30, 2011. The NAC/AEGL did not meet in in fiscal year 2011. No meetings were closed to the public.

The NAC/AEGL Committee supported EPA s Goal 4 -- Healthy Communities and Ecosystems. The NAC/AEGL develops Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for chemicals that are the focus of EPA regulations and guidance to help prevent against airborne releases of chemicals (chemical accidents), especially Risk Management Program and SARA Community Emergency Planning.
