Legislation Status
How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee will provide advice and recommendations on a broad range of policy issues that affect small business and its role in providing goods and services to the General Services Administration (GSA)and the Federal Government through GSA. The Committee will provide advice and recommendations only. As part of the GSA's 21 Gun Salute Inititiative to meet and exceed its 3-percent Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business goal the Subcommittee on Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, will advise the SBAC.
How is membership balanced?*Membership is balanced between special government employees with individual expertise in starting, owning, operating and managing small businesses, and representatives of associations comprised of procurement preference program members. There is also balance by geography, with all parts of the country represented.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee meets approximately twice a year to provide advice and recommendations on issues affecting small business outreach, best practices for doing business with the Federal government, increasing Federal procurement opportunities and other policy issues. The subcommittee on Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs), formed in January 2009 to advise the SBAC will meet approximately one or twice a year also.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The General Services Administration determined that direct input from the private and non-profit sectors would improve the agency's performance in contracting with small businesses. This input is candid advice on issues affecting the small business community at large, as well as issues that affect small businesses doing business with the Federal government.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
Recommendation RemarksPending appointment of the Administrator, renewal of the charter will be completed in 2010. The Associate Administrator decided on 12/04/2009 not to re-establish the GSA Small Business Advisory Committee.
