How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The committee will conduct an investigation and study of future highway needs, future transit needs, and current and projected Federal Highway Trust Fund revenues, taking into account the impact of possible changes in public vehicular choice, fuel use, or travel alternatives upon the fund.
How is membership balanced?*The committee will be comprised of 15 members - 7 appointed by the Secretary of Transportation, 2 appointed by the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, 2 appointed by the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, 2 appointed by the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and 2 appointed by the Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee will meet at least once a year to discuss relevant issues relating to the revenues which flow to the Highway Trust Fund, including the funding needs of highway and transit projects.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The committee will make recommendations addressing, but not limited to, the levels of revenue that the HTF will require to maintain and improve the condition and performance of the Nation's highway and transit systems to ensure that Federal levels of investments in highways and transit do not decline in real terms and addressing policies to achieve such HTF revenues.
Why close or partially close meetings?All meetings will be open to the public, except as provided under FACA.
Recommendation RemarksPer authorizing legislation, the Commission shall terminate 180 days after submission of its final report. The Commission submitted its final report on February 26, 2009.
