How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*At a time of fundamental and rapid transformation within the DOD, the U.S. European Command is looking for insight into the major issues across their areas of responsibility which will help them map the road ahead. Provide guidance and assistance to the U.S. European Command on subjects related to basing, strategy, and political matters.
How is membership balanced?*The committee will be balanced among military and civilian national security experts, academicians, and civilian leaders in the public sector.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*This committee plans to meet up to four times per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The U.S. European Command needs the challenge of diverse and divergent views on their operations to assist them in planning for the future. The Command does not have the staff or expertise to provide them the depth and breadth of information on the 93 countries which fall within their area of responsibility.
Why close or partially close meetings? In accordance with 5 USC, App. 2, Section 1, et seq. and Executive Order 12958 of 17 April 1995; the meetings of this committee will be evaluated per the forecasted agenda for closure as required based on the classification level of material presented for review. The closed meetings will be announced in the Federal register.
Recommendation RemarksThe committee issued no separate reports for fiscal year 2006; however, it did make several recommendations to the committee's decision maker, which were contained in the committee's meeting minutes.

The Department of Defense is terminating this discretionary advisory committee effective September 30, 2008.

It should be noted that the government's decision maker was retiring and the committee deferred additional considerations until appointment of a new EUCOM commander.Access Agency WebsiteNo
