Committee Detail

Note: An Annual Comprehensive Review, as required by §7 of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, is conducted each year on committee data entered for the previous fiscal year (referred to as the reporting year). The data for the reporting year is not considered verified until this review is complete and the data is moved to history for an agency/department. Legislation Status
How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Monument Advisory Committee met once in FY-2006. The primary focus of this meeting is the continued development of recommendations towards the development of the range of alternatives for the Monument plan. These recommendations represent input from a wide range of interests (e.g., Committee member constituents, general public, local organizations). These recommendations will be instrumental in developing draft plan that represents a broad and diverse set of local, regional and national concerns.
How is membership balanced?*The Advisory Committee will be composed of 11 members from, or within reasonable proximity to, southwest Colorado. Categories of interest they represent include 1) Montezuma County Commission Representative; 2) Dolores County Representative; 3) Two Tribal/Puelbo Representatives; 4) Two Cultural Resource Representatives; 5) Livestock Grazing Permittee; 6) Fluid Minerals Development Representative; 7) Private Adjacent Landowner; and 8) Two Representatives of Statewide Perspectives.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee only meets when there are relevant items for them to discuss and potentially develop recommendations on.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Monument is critical to sustaining the economy of southwest Colorado. In addition, the Monument attracts local, regional, national, and international visitors. Through the partnership between the BLM and the community, local, regional and national needs will be addressed commensurate with natural and cultural resource management for long-term benefit. Previous outreach efforts have involved a diverse community of groups interested in the management of public lands. These efforts have been valuable in focusing on key public land and resource management issues and in encouraging cooperation and dialogue among the interest groups.
Why close or partially close meetings?
