How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee was charged with developing language for the Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) Synthesis and Assessment Product that addressed Topic 1.1: Temperature trends in the lower atmosphere -- steps for understanding and reconciling differences. The committee met in open session on February 8-9, 2006 to review public comments received on the second draft, and a final draft was posted on the CCSP web-site on March 15, 2006 and presented to the CCSP Principals for review and forwarding to the NSTC (National Science and Technology Council) for final approval. The Final Report was posted on May 2, 2006.
How is membership balanced?*Members were chosen to assure a balanced representation of scientific views among preeminent scientists, educators, and experts reflecting the full scope of the scientific issues addressed in CCSP Synthesis and Assessment Product 1.1.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee held one meeting to review public comments on the second draft report. This meeting was a critical step in developing a third and final draft of the Product.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*This Committee was essential so that the Secretary of Commerce could comply with duties imposed on the Department, including the Global Change Research Act of 1990 (P.L. No. 101-606, Section 106), and NOAA could meet its CCSP lead agency responsibilities for development of this Synthesis and Assessment Product. There was no other source available to provide the advice given by the Committee.
