How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Advisory Commission gains knowledge of Park issues, discusses issues and presents Park management with recommendations. There are frequent field trips to show members concerns, progress, etc.FY 2005 - The Advisory Commission's purpose, to complete the General Management Plan, is sucessfully done. No additional meetings are required.
How is membership balanced?*Membership of the advisory commission is as prescribed in the enabling legislation, consisting of no more than 15 members to include (a) an elected official for each County within which any part of the park is located; (b) a representative of the owners of private properties located within or immediatley adjacent ot the park; and (c) other members representing persons actively engaged in grazing and range management, mineral exploration and development, and persons with expertise in relevant fields, including geology, biology, ecology, law enforcement, and the protection and mangement of national park resources and values. A variety of interests are represented, including mining, grazing, conservation, recreation, concession, Native American, and local government.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Commission will meet approximately two times a year on a regular basis and at such other times as the DFO may direct. The meetings provide a forum for dissemination and exchange of relevant information about Death Valley National Park's mission, direction, issues, etc., in order to make knowledgeable recommendations to management.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Advisory Commission was mandated by California Desert Protection Act of 1994. The Advisory Commission is to advise the Secretary of the Interior concerning the development and implementation of a new or revised comprehensive management plan for Death Valley National Park.
Why close or partially close meetings?No meetings have been closed.
Recommendation Remarks(1) Re#6 (EXPECTED CHARTER RENEWAL DATE) -- The FACA Section 14(b) biennial rechartering requirement has been waived for this Commission by P.L. 102-525, October 26, 1992.
(2) Re MEMBERSHIP -- In accordance with the Committee Charter and P.L. 102-525, members may continue to serve after the expiration of their terms until successors are appointed.
