How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Board of Visitors (BOV) continues to work to improve College policies and procedures, providing valuable guidance to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command and CCAF. During fiscal year 2003, the Board met at Tyndall AFB, Florida, in October 2002. The Board heard discussion on project advancements and made endorsements on a number of worthwhile issues. The board endorsed:- Affiliation of a new school, the 305 OG, McGuire AFB NJ- The continued affiliation of the AFOSI Academy which moved to Glynco GA- Disaffiliation of 1 school requesting disaffiliation due to consolidation- Placing the ICBM Center for Excellence, F.E. Warren AFB WY, on Warning Status - The conversion of all certificate or C courses to degree applicable or D courses- Not accepting credit in transfer from Pensacola Christian College, a nonaccredited institution - Calendar dates and locations for future scheduled CCAF Board of Visitors Meetings
How is membership balanced?*The BOV normally meets at least twice a year. The Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Criteria for Accreditation requires member institutions to have a governing board, a majority of whose voting members are representative of the public interest. These members are further required to have no contractual, employment, or personal financial interest in the institution. The CCAF BOV satisfies this requirement and is essential to maintaining continued accreditation. They also provide valuable guidance and expertise to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command, and the Commander/President, CCAF, on educational policy and related matters. The CCAF BOV consists of up to twelve civilian leaders drawn from education, business and industry. There are five ex officio members: The Commander, Air Education and Training Command, represents the interests of the United States Air Force; the Commander, Air University, represents the interests of the University; the Commander/President, CCAF, represents the interests of the College; the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force represents the interests of the CCAF students; the Air Education and Training Command Chief Master Sergeant represents the interests of the faculty; and the Chairman of the Air University Board of Visitors provides liaison with the Air University Board of Visitors. The twelve appointed members represent the public interest. Collectively, the CCAF BOV functions in the same manner as the board of Regents/trustees does in a public community college. The members are drawn from a variety of backgrounds and provide valuable insights on critical issues for the College.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The BOV normally meets at least twice a year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Community College of the Air Force is a unique, federally chartered, associate degree granting institution whose primary mission is to provide an opportunity for active duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard members to earn a regionally accredited associate degree in a field related to their Air Force specialty. The Board of Visitors satisfies the accreditation criteria for institutional governance of the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Without such a board, the College would not be able to maintain regional accreditation. It is neither feasible nor prudent to have the BOV's unique duties performed by another agency
Why close or partially close meetings? Not applicable to the CCAF Board of Visitors. All meetings are open and announced in the Federal Register.
Recommendation RemarksIt is recommended by subject matter experts that this committee continue.
