How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Members of the Board make recommendations to the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) to facilitate DFAS becoming a world class provider of finance and accounting services. To streamline and modernize DoD financial management to ensure it is as effective and economical as feasible, fulfills the information needs of decision makers, satisfies statutory requirements, eliminates fraud and waste, and provides superior customer service Members of the Board make recommendations to the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) concerning the best allocation and expenditure of funds and the speed and shape of DFAS reform.
How is membership balanced?*The membership includes management stakeholders in all Military Departments, the Director, DFAS, and senior service executives as observers. Private sector members are experts in current financial management business practices and knowledgeable about future trends impacting the Department of Defense in the next several decades.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Board meets at the request of the Director, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, normally three times a year. Due to national security concerns, tha Board did not meet at all in FY-03. No reports were issued. No minutes were filed. No meetings were held in FY-04. No reports were issued. No minutes were filed.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*This Advisory Board is necessary to ensure DFAS receives expert advice as it undertakes a vigorous transformation of financial management operations, processes and systems. No other group consisting of top management representatives from the Military Services and private sector experts in state-of-the-art financial management and industry trends currently exists.
