How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Based on presentations from external and internal clinical programmatic experts and discussion among members from a wide variety of backgrounds, the Committee formulated various recommendations for how the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and other organizations should address issues around HIV/AIDS which affect HRSA programs. In addition, the Committee developed recommendations for how HRSA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can improve HIV prevention and treatment services linkages on the federal, state, and local levels based upon solicitation and review of input from CARE Act grantees, community groups, consumers, providers, and review of written comments.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee members represent diverse regional, ethnic and professional backgrounds, including the fields of health care delivery, medical education, clinical care, preventive health, public health, and the general public. There are also representatives living with HIV.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Meetings will be held at least twice a year. Representatives of the Committee maintain ongoing communication with the Associate Administrator of the HIV/AIDS Bureau in order to facilitate implementation of Committee recommendations.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee is comprised of individuals knowledgeable on the HIV epidemic with the broadest range of knowledge in medical and socioeconomic aspects. This expertise is essential to enhance the overall coordination of the Agency's HIV/AIDS policy decisions and activities.

Agency Feedback CommentThe agency generally provides feedback to the Committee in discussions with the Committee in subsequent meetings.Narrative Description*The Committee advises the CDC, HRSA, and the Secretary on activities related to prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and other STDs, the support of health care services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, and education of health professionals and the public about HIV/AIDS and other STDs. The Committee supports the Agencies' process of identifying and responding to the prevention and health service delivery needs of affected communities, and the needs of individualsl iving with or at risk for HIV and other STDs.
