How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Nine hundred and thirty one (931) applications were reviewed by 593 members of the Health Professions and Nurse Education Special Emphasis Panel. How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Panel met 23 times during FY 2003 to review grant applications for support of the following programs: Dental Public Health; Residency Training in Primary Care (2); Advanced General & Pediatric Dentistry; Basic Geriatric Nursing Initiative; Public Health Nursing; Predoctoral Training in Primary Care; Faculty Development in Primary Care; Physicians Assistants; Nursing Workforce Diversity; Model AHEC; Basic/Core AHEC; Geriatric Faculty Fellowships; Quinten Burdick; Administrative Academic Units; Advanced Education Nursing (2); Regional Workforce Centers; Basic Nurse Education Practice (2); Geriatric Education Centers; Allied Health; and Centers of Excellence.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*By law (42 U.S.C. 295o-1 and 296e), the Secretary is required to establish peer review groups as necessary and to make appointments to the groups from among appropriately qualified persons.
Why close or partially close meetings?While the Panel is performing the review of applications, it discusses detailed personnel and budget information associated with proposals, including confidential assessments of individuals and merits of applications.
