How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The CDC Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention (ACHSP) convened meetings, established workgroups and held conference calls to discuss important issues related to HIV and STD prevention. The Committee accomplished its purpose through reports and recommendations to CDC and DHHS.
How is membership balanced?*The membership of the Committee was composed of physicians, researchers, academicians, public health administrators, epidemiologists, STD experts and representatives of educational- and community-based organizations. The recruitment process ensured that members were fairly balanced by geographic region, race/ethnicity, gender and expertise. Attempts were made to recruit committee members living with HIV/AIDS.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee met one time in FY 2003. The Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention (ACHSP) HIV/STD Integration Workgroup held a meeting on October 1, 2002, to discuss issues related to the programmatic integration of HIV and other STDs, including actions that could overcome challenges in the field.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee advised the DHHS Secretary and the CDC Director on numerous HIV and STD polices, strategies and priorities for prevention efforts. During the existence of this Committee, ACHSP provided advice and recommendations on policies and priorities for HIV and STD prevention efforts.
