How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The NAC advises the FCC on all matters concerning the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and its implementation, including but not limited to, emergency alerting policies, new technologies, plans, regulations, and procedures at the national, state and local levels. The Committee meets annually to address specific concerns in implementing the Emergency Alert System, as well as to make specific recommendations on how the EAS can be improved given new technological advances.
How is membership balanced?*The NAC consists of volunteer government and industry personnel. Members include representatives from broadcasting, cable, satellite, MMDS, other technologies, government agencies involved in emergency communications, and audiences such as the deaf and hard of hearing.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The NAC meets annually and submits recommendations to the Commission concerning new developments in EAS such as new services participation in EAS, including, but not limited to, satellites, pagers, cellular phones, HDTV, and other telecommunications services.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The NAC advises the FCC on all matters concerning the implementation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) that includes emergency alerting policies, advances in new technologies, plans, regulations, and procedures at the national, state and local levels. The NAC also recommends and coordinates with state and local authorities for more efficient outreach in implementing the EAS system. The Committee also recommends and develops training and educational guides regarding the EAS system and coordinates the EAS program with state and local officials in maintaining an effective emergency alert program.
