How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Through its meetings, the Commission provides a forum for the exchange of information with and solicitation of comments from the public in the formulation of recommendations on matters relating to the development and management of Petroglyph National Monument. The Commission conducted its last meeting on November 16, 2001 prior to the expiration of the Commission Charter.
How is membership balanced?*As prescribed by the enabling legislation, the 11-member Commission is composed of: (a) one member who has professional expertise in history or archeology, appointed from recommendations submitted by the Governor of the State of New Mexico; (b) one member who has professional expertise in history or archaeology, appointed from recommendations submitted by the mayor of the city of Albuquerque, NM; (c) one member who has professional expertise in Indian history or ceremonial activities, appointed from recommendations submitted by the All Indian Pueblo Council; (d) one member who is a shareholder of the Westland Development Company, Incorporated; (e) one member who is an heir of the Atrisco Land Grant; (f) one member who is an affected landowner; (g) one member who has professional expertise in Indian rock art; (h) one member who has profesional expertise in cultural anthropology; (i) one member who has professional expertise in geology; (j) one member from the general public; and (k) the Director of the National Park Service, or the Director's designee, ex officio.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Commission had its last meeting on November 16, 2001. The term of the Commission has expired.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Petroglyph National Monument Advisory Commission was established by the Congress to advise the Secretary of the Interior on the management and development of the Petroglyph National Monument, including development of the General Management Plan and land acquisition. The Charter gave the Commission a 10 year life and the Commission no longer exists.
Why close or partially close meetings?All meetings were open.
Recommendation Remarks(1) Re#6 (EXPECTED CHARTER RENEWAL DATE) -- Pursuant to the Commission's enabling legislation, the FACA section 14 (b) rechartering requirement does not apply to this committee. (2) Re MEMBERSHIP -- Pursuant to the enabling legislation, members may continue to serve after the expiration of their terms until successors are appointed.
