How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*Through a series of various mechanisms, including but not limited to public meetings, information gathering, various site visits, additional planned site visits and analysis of DOE EH Comprehensive Fire Safety Review Reports to be conducted in the near future.
How is membership balanced?*Members from professional organizations, private sector, government, and industry.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*January 2001 thru September 2001: 2 public meetings (January and April); 21 subcommittee conference calls; 2 subcommittee site visits (LANL and Hanford). Final Public Meeting of the Commission was held on July 9, 2002, which included presentation of the Commission's final recommendations to the Secretary of Energy.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The number of wildfires during the past few years promopted a review of the Department's policies and procedures, deeming it necessary to bring in some independent experienced professionals to assess the effectivness of DOE's wildland fire capability, as well as facility fire safety readiness.
Why close or partially close meetings?Public meetings are open and announcements published in the Federal Register.
