How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The committee's design was to provide a forum for public discussion of security policy. In particular government contractors maintained an obvious interest in such policy and were a primary target of the committee's endeavors. The mechanism of communication was quarterly meetings held in various localities throughout the country. The committee had a major impact in communicating to the Executive Branch the depth of community feeling (negative) with respect to the backlog of personnel security investigations. The committee was also been a propulsive force in the establishment of a community wide data base for security clearance information.
How is membership balanced?*The committee had four diverse members, all of whom were currently involved in the private sector. All four also previously enjoyed government careers and, as such, bring to the table a dual perspective and a welcome sense of proportion.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee did not meet this fiscal year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The committee's input was unique in that it represented an ever present insitutional presence--a kind of bureaucratic balance which can only be accomplished with a permanent presence.
Why close or partially close meetings? No meetings were held this fiscal year.
Recommendation RemarksThis committee was terminated on March 1, 2001. The committee was inactive in FY-01.
