How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Panel is to conduct an independent, high-level review of the V-22 program to include safety of the aircraft and recommend any proposed changes or corrective actions, and report the results to the Secretary of Defense. The panel should address the following factors, as they affect strategy and combat effectiveness: training, engineering and design, production and quality control, suitability to satisfy operational requirements, and performance and safety of flight.
How is membership balanced?*The panel is composed of four members, who have expertise, knowledge, and experience in matters related to the V-22.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*After a series of fact finding sessions, the panel held two open meetings: one was a public hearing and the other, public deliberations.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Secretary of Defense is in need of an objective panel to look at this high profile program. The panel members all have substantial expertise, knowledge, and experience necessary in matters related to the V-22 review that is unavailable from any other resource.
Why close or partially close meetings?
Recommendation RemarksThe panel issued its final report on May 30, 2001. Hearings before the Senate and House Armed Services Committees were held in early June 2001.
