How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*It provides a forum for Trinity River Basin stakeholders to consider proposals and set priorities to restore the fishery and advise the Secretary. Proposals that meet the goals and objectives of the program are reviewed and approved. Projects are also ranked for funding purposes. The committee provides policy and direction for the program. Various watershed improvement projects, fishery monitoring efforts and a Trinity mainstem EIS were funded.
How is membership balanced?*The Department of the Interior is represented by the Bureau of Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Bureau of Land Management. The Department of Agriculture is represented by the Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service. The Department of Commerce is represented by the National Marine Fisheries Service. California is represented by the Department of Fish and Game,and the Department of Water Resources. Local representation includes Trinity and Humboldt Counties. Indian representatives include the Yurok, Karuk, and Hoopa Valley Tribes. Industry representatives include sport fishing, commercial fishing, timber interests, water and power users.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee meets a minimum of once a year to approve a Three Year Action Plan which recommends out year budgets and prioritizes tasks. More frequent meetings may be necessary to address issues and make recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The balance of membership represents diverse viewpoints, opinions, and interests; provides advice that cannot be obtained from a single source.
