How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Kinship Care Advisory Panel reviews and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Services to prepare a report to the Congress on children in foster care who are placed in the care of a relative.
How is membership balanced?*The Secretary appointed 25 individuals, including parents, foster parents, relative caregivers, former foster children, State and local public officials responsible for administering child welfare programs, private persons involved in the delivery of child welfare services, representatives of tribal governments and tribal courts, judges, and academic experts to the Kinship Care Advisory Panel.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Kinship Care Adivsory Panel met on October 5-6, 1998 and January 28, 1999 in order to meet the tight deadlines of the Kinship Care Advisory Panel reports and complete the tasks that were assigned in the original charter.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Kinship Care Advisory Panel is necessary to identify broad, overarching policy recommendations regarding the extent to which children in foster care are placed in the care of a relative. The Panel is needed to discuss areas such as permanency planning for children. In this regard, the actions being taken by the State to achieve the plan; whom the child has been removed, as well as, other critial issues with respect to the matter of Kinship Care.
