How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee originally identifed several topics of interest to the field of corrections. The National Institute of Corrections funded the development of several briefing papers addressing these topics. These informational pieces will be disseminated through the Institute's existing networks and distribtion vehicles. Since the materials have not yet been disseminated, no data is available on the impact on agency operations.
How is membership balanced?*In accordance with the enacting legislation this committee was comprised of Federal, State and local officials with expertise in prison construction and representatives from architectural, engineering and construction services from the private sector.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*No meetings were held during Fiscal Year 1999. During meetings held in fiscal years, the Task Force outlined topics regarding what information should be summarized (from existing materials), and/or developed and disseminated to the field of corrections. These topics were then developed into two statements of work used to develop Requests for Proposals. A contract was awarded based on the responses to these Proposals. The Task Force members reviewed and provided comments on the products generated under this contract.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*1. The combination of professionals that comprise the Task Force is unique. No other source matched its composition. It would not have been possible to obtain the needed input and information from any other group or organization.2. This combination of individuals also ensured that the information and perspective they provided was current and timely.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A
