How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Motor Vehicle Safety Research Advisory Committee provides a forum for members of the Automotive safety research community to communicate with the Agency on major research programs and to discuss ways to effectively use the limited resources available for automotive safety research. Through reviews of NHTSA's research programs, Committee membes share information and make recommendations from their organization's perspective
How is membership balanced?*Members of the Motor Vehicle Safety Research Advisory Committee include representation from automobile manufacturers, various organizations in the motor vechicle research community and the US Dept of Transportation. Members are appointed by the Secretary of Transportation basedon their technical expertise in the specific areas of concern, so that hey can effectively represent their organizations. They are chosen to reflect a proper balance between vehicle manufacurers and others in the research community who represent different points of view.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*In FY 1997, we have made signiicant progress in redirecting the focus of the Committee to include issues directly relating to injury prevention. We have expanded membership to institutionalize and energize the linkage between the health care and engineering worlds.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Motor Vehicle Safety Research Advisory Committee brings together knowledgeable experts in he field of motor vehicle safety research in an interactive setting providing an independent source to share information and ideas on motor vehicle safety research. Without this Committee, meetings between government/industry to exchange this type of information could not occur.
