How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Panel reviewed previous studies and analysis, received numerous briefings on related subject area and communicated with Air Force and contractor officials on related subject areas.The Panel submitted a written report to the President and the Congress. The Chairman also appeared before Senate and House defense committees to brief them on the report and the panel's findings.
How is membership balanced?*The panel was comprised of nine members:- three were named by the President including the Chairman- two were named by the Speaker of the House of Representatives- one member by the ranking Minority Leader of the House- two by the Senate Majority Leader- one by the Senate Minority Leader
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Four meetings were held during Feb and March 1998. The panel met 4 times in Washington D.C. and traveled once to Whiteman AFB, MO.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Language in FY 98 Defense Authroization bill identified the need for an independent panel to review the roles and requirements of U.S. long range air power assets (bombers) and was charged to reccomend whether additonal funds for the B-2 should be used for contiued low-rate production of the B-2 or for upgrades to improve its deployability, survivability, and maintainability.
