How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The final report was widely circulated for review and comments to internal stakeholders, professional and veterans organizations and Congress. Report recommendations, along with comments received, formed the basis for strategic initiatives to foster Veterans Health Administration iniitiatives that will foster and support innovative nursing practices.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee was composed of a broad array of interdiscipilnary individuals with expertise in current healthcare practices, business practices and entrepreneurial ventures. To ensure balance in the recommendations, the Committee was composed of individuals from both the federal and private sectors. Selection of Committee members was based on the ability to provide substantial contributions based on a combination of knowledge and experience into current and future health care and nursing innovations. Within this context, the Committee composition was maintained through a balanced, widely respected and diverse membership.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The mission-specific Committee completed its activities during FY 97 through the following activities: The work of the Committee was conducted primarily in four meetings. These sessions were held at VA Headquarters in Washington, DC, on January 15-16, 1997, March 3-4, 1997, April 8-9, 1997, and at Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, OR, on June 22-23, 1997. Transcripts are on file and minutes were distributed. In addition, full membership conference calls were conducted on July 3, 1997, and July 11, 1997, and four drafts of the final report were circulated, amended and revised.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The unique background and expertise of Committee members were necessary to design, implement and interpret a comprehensive fact finding effort into those factors in the Veterans Health Administration which foster or impede innovative nursing practices.
