How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The RAC provides advice and develops recommendations for BLM with respect to the land use planning, classification, retention, management, and disposal of the public lands within the area for which the advisory council is established and such other matters as may be referred to it by the DFO. The RAC also makes recommendations to the BLM and FS regarding recreation fee proposals.
How is membership balanced?*The Sierra-Front Northern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council is composed of 15 members distributed in a balanced fashion among the following groups. Category I includes those holding Federal grazing permits or leases, interests associated with transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, OHV users, or commercial recreation activities, commercial timber industry, or energy and mineral development. Category II includes nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, dispersed recreation activities, archaeological and historical interests, or nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups. Category III includes state, county, or locally elected office-holders, employee of a State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized, are employed as academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences, or represent the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The RAC did not meet in FY2020, but will generally meet 2-4 times per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The RAC allows BLM managers to receive advice and feedback from a wide variety of local interested citizens in a single, interactive forum at regularly scheduled meetings. The RAC provides the various interests in a single forum to discuss issues and reach consensus.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public.
Recommendation RemarksThis Council consolidates 1/3 of the Northeastern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (2063) with the Sierra Front Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (2064) to create the Sierra Front Northern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (84607) effective March 5, 2020.
