How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee will function solely as an advisory body. The committee will provide advice on the science and technology needs of the nation’s domestic microelectronics industry, the national strategy on microelectronics research, the research and development programs and other advanced microelectronics activities funded through CHIPS for America, and opportunities for new public-private partnerships.
How is membership balanced?*Not fewer than 12 members and fairly balanced among representatives of the semiconductor industry, representatives of federal laboratories and academia, and other members. To maintain balance, staggered appointments will be used. Memberships will be diverse, with representation and expertise reflecting the full breadth of the Committee's responsibilities and where possible, consider the ethnic, racial and gender diversity of the United States.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee will meet at least twice each year at the call of the DFO in consultation with the Committee Chair.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee is necessary to fulfill the responsibility of the Department under Section 9906(b) of the William M. “Mac” Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, Pub. L. 116-283. Members are diverse and well qualified to assess and provide guidance on:
(A) science and technology needs of the nation's domestic
microelectronics industry;
(B) the extent to which the strategy developed under
section 9906(a)(3) of the Act is helping maintain United States leadership
in microelectronics manufacturing;
(C) assessment of the research and development programs and
activities authorized under section 9906 of the Act; and
(D) opportunities for new public-private partnerships to
advance microelectronics research, development, and domestic
manufacturing.
