How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Advisory Committee meets twice each year and uses a varied format that includes full committee discussion and working group sessions focused on specific issues of mutual concern to the community, directorate and agency. General advice and information is provided on a variety of topics including Director’s special issues, NSF and TIP budgets, TIP programs, and NSF initiatives.
How is membership balanced?*The TIP Advisory Committee members shall be individuals with relevant experience or expertise, including individuals from industry and national labs, educators, and academic subject matter experts, technology transfer experts, labor organizations, representatives of civil society, and other nongovernmental organizations. These individuals should have, knowledge of key technology focus areas and their impact on United States national security and geostrategic leadership and/or the technical and social dimensions of science and technology.

The Committee shall consist of approximately 10 members broadly representative of stakeholders, including no less than three members from the private sector, none of whom shall be an employee of the Federal Government, and no less than one member with significant expertise in United States national security and economic competitiveness. Members are selected to achieve a balance of viewpoints and expertise in scientific areas and types of institutions encompassed by TIP activities. To the extent practicable, effort is made to achieve a diverse membership that includes individuals from underrepresented groups and different geographic regions.

It is anticipated that members will be comprised of Special Government Employees (SGEs) and Regular Government Employees (RGEs).
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee will meet approximately twice each year. In addition, throughout the year, members may serve on subcommittees, including Committee of Visitors, participate in workshops and ad hoc meetings to address NSF-wide issues. Also, the TIP AC Chair may attend TIP senior management retreat(s), participate with other advisory committee chairs in meetings with the NSF Director providing guidance and advice on agency-wide issues, joint meetings with other NSF advisory committees are scheduled to facilitate interaction on areas and activities of mutual interest. Individual committee members may also represent the committee at other advisory committee meetings.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The programs and policies of the TIP directorate are unique, and the Advisory Committee membership is constituted to provide informed advice on these programs.
