How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The MAC provides advice and information to the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture through the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service relating to the development of the Monument management plan. The MAC may also, where appropriate, give advice on management of the National Monument.
How is membership balanced?*The MAC is composed of 15 members that include a representative of the Arizona Game and Fish Department; a representative employed by a State agency; an elected official from local government; three representatives of Tribal Nations; a representative of developed outdoor recreation, off-highway vehicle users, or commercial recreation activities in the Monument; a representative of the conservation community; a representative of wildlife, hunting, or fishing organizations; a representative of cultural or historical interests; a representative of the scientific community; a representative of the ranching community; a representative of local business owners; and two representatives of the public-at-large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The committee will meet approximately 2-4 times annually.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The purpose of the MAC is to enable Arizona citizens to have a meaningful say in the development of the Monument management plan and, as appropriate, management of the Monument. These local stakeholders provide important perspective on how the public lands within the Monument can be best managed for the benefit of the American people.
Why close or partially close meetings? All meetings are open to the public. Notices of the meetings are published in the Federal Register, posted on the MAC's webpage and social media sites, and meeting information is distributed to local media.
Recommendation RemarksThe Committee did not meet in FY25.
