How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee will provide consensus-driven recommendations that lead to sustainable outcomes that benefit public lands and enjoy a high level of public support. The recommendations will assist the BLM with ongoing public engagement, outreach efforts, and partnership opportunities; provide feedback to the BLM on examples of successful implementation, including best practices; provide input on policy guidance implementing the Public Lands Rule, including identifying additional guidance needs or recommending updates to existing guidance; and offer recommendations on communication tools and strategies to help provide greater understanding of the Public Lands Rule.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee will be composed of no less than 15 members that include two representatives of State governments; one representative of local governments; two representatives of Tribal governments; two representatives of the public at large; at least one representative of the science community, including archaeological or historical interests; at least two representatives of non-governmental organizations specializing in environmental, conservation, or watershed interests; recreation interests; or hunting and fishing interests; at least one representative of energy and mineral development; at least one representative of Federal grazing permit holders or other permittees; and at least one representative of commercial recreation activities.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee’s functions cannot be performed by other means because it ensures that the public and expert involvement and advice is considered in BLM decision-making. The diversity and strength of knowledge, passion, and political connections possessed by Committee members is an invaluable resource for the BLM to assist in implementation of the Conservation and Landscape Health Rule, also known as the Public Lands Rule.
