How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee provides advice and recommendations to the Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information on a broad range of issues regarding spectrum policy and on needed reforms to domestic spectrum policies and management to enable timely implementation of evolving spectrum-dependent technologies and services to benefit the public.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee remains fairly balanced in terms of the points of view represented by stakeholders and the functions to be performed. It reflects a balanced cross-section of stakeholder interests in spectrum management and policy reform, including non-federal government users, state, regional, and local sectors, technology developers, and manufacturers, academia, consumer groups, and service providers with customers in both domestic and international markets.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee expects to hold four meetings per year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*A November 29, 2004, presidential Memorandum to the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies on the subject of Spectrum Management for the 21st Century directed implementation of all recommendations contained in two reports from the Secretary of Commerce to the President in June 2004. These reports identifed improvements in U.S. spectrum management. The first recommendation in Report 2 called for the establishment of this federal advisory committee.

Also feedback is posted to the website based on the Committee's recommendations. We also provide informal feedback through discussions with members and subcommittees.Narrative Description*The Committee assists NTIA in its missions as principal adviser to the President on telecommunications and information policy issues and as manager of spectrum used by Federal government agencies. It does so by providing non-Federal government and private sector input on U.S. spectrum management policy. The Committee facilitates increased understanding among all spectrum users about their respective interests.
