How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*	The Committee provides valuable counsel and perspective to the Director of CDC on crucial issues that impact CDC's mission to promote quality of life and health by preventing and controlling disease. The members of the Advisory Committee to the Director offer collective and individual insights from their various backgrounds in academia, business, communications, healthcare, and other fields. The committee also employs the assistance of workgroups that work on specific goals. The ACD established three workgroups in 2023: health equity, data and surveillance, and laboratory.
How is membership balanced?*	The committee membership is balanced by appointing members who are knowledgeable in areas pertinent to the CDC mission, such as public health and medical education, industry, healthcare delivery, health policy, preventive medicine, allied fields, communication, and a representative from the general public. In addition, the members are also ethnically, geographically, and racially diverse. This type of expertise provides CDC's leadership with diverse, and informed opinions on broad policy issues affecting the agency and the health of the public.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*	The Committee provides expert input from outside constituents. It provides advice and broad-based perspectives from the committee members as well as from their peers to address current challenges to the nation’s health and globalization issues that directly correlate to CDC’s goal of providing professional and technical advice to the health community and sound health messages to the public. With the increased emphasis over the past decade on prevention and health promotion, in both the public and private sectors, the need for external advice from the Advisory Committee to the Director has become even more important.

Recommendation Remarks	The ACD Committee was re-established 4/15/2021. Adaora Adimora (deceased). Michelle Taylor resigned on 10/20/2024. This committee does not produce reports. The agency is in the process of reviewing all recommendations and determining which ones to implement.
