How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The purpose of the UFAC is to advise on issues related to the performance of inspections coinciding with the assessment of an agriculture, customs, or immigration user fee. The Advisory Committee focuses its attention on those areas of most concern and benefit to the travel industry, the traveling public, and the Federal Government. Advice from the Committee can influence staffing decisions at field locations, help to shorten inspection time-frames, and improve the flow of legitimate trade and people through more than 300 ports of entry. The Committee also provides advice considerate of impacts imposed upon industry from possible operational or policy changes. The committee is currently on hiatus.
How is membership balanced?*There are currently no members. On June 10, 2020, CBP published a Federal Register notice (85 FR 35430): “Request for Applicants for Appointment to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection User Fee Advisory Committee.” Only one application was received, so no members were appointed. Note: That applicant was later appointed to CBP’s Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee during its sixteenth term, which commenced in January 2022.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*There were no public meetings during FY24.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Committee serves to focus attention on those areas of most concern and benefit to both the travel industry and the federal government. It provides the travel industry and other interested parties a forum to discuss current inspection programs and fees. In addition, it provides the agency with the opportunity to elicit feedback and discuss proposed program and fee changes.
Why close or partially close meetings?N/A

Agency Feedback Comment*The committee is currently on hiatus.Narrative Description*This Advisory Committee provides a forum for representatives of the travel and trade community to be actively involved with CBP concerning operational and financial issues that can affect them. The feedback provided by the Advisory Committee helps CBP to align resources and respond to the needs of the travel and trade communities. CBP benefits from receiving feedback about proper personnel levels and projected work volume increases. By virtue of the discussions and planning associated with this Advisory Committee, CBP is also better able to ensure the seamless flow of legitimate trade and travel into and out of the United States. Given the size, complexity and scope of the CBP mission, and the large size of the private sector staff and facilities, the professional advice, experience, expertise, and technical assistance that the Advisory Committee and its advisory organization provide are critical to the overall mission of CBP.
