How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*NACIE engages senior officials from the Department of Commerce and throughout the public and private sectors to vet, validate, or recommend changes and additions to policies for advancing job creation, economic growth, and global competitiveness through innovation and entrepreneurship. Its recommendations span a wide array of issues--such as access to capital, technology commercialization, and workforce development--that affect the success of entrepreneurs throughout the U.S.
How is membership balanced?*NACIE’s membership consists of leaders and experts on innovation, technology commercialization, and related workforce issues, including but not limited to successful entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and leaders from the nonprofit and academic sectors.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Meetings generally are held quarterly, with additional meetings convened as needed to discuss draft reports and vote on recommendations. Meetings are essential to NACIE's operations and relevance: they serve as the primary venues at which members learn about Administration priorities, and they provide fora in which NACIE members can publicly debate issues and make policy recommendations to further those priorities. Meetings have resulted in NACIE policy recommendations that were embodied by key crowdfunding language in the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act of 2012, P.L. 112-106 (the JOBS Act) in recommendations for the creation of an encyclopedia of innovation indexes and measures for four specific measures to improve the economic impacts of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs, and in regional innovation policy language in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*Innovation and entrepreneurship are critical components of a sound and flourishing economy, and entrepreneurs—and the companies they start and grow—are the lifeblood of American prosperity. Their ideas fuel the country’s innovation while their companies propel our economy forward. They create new jobs and make local, regional, and national economies more resilient and more globally competitive. Deriving inspiration from economic challenges, social needs, or pure business acumen, entrepreneurs harness their passions and drive to translate dreams into jobs. They identify and scale innovations throughout the economy, create businesses across every sector that manufacture value-added products in the U.S., and increase American global competitiveness and the potential for high-value exports. NACIE members, who are drawn from a diverse range of recognized experts, are necessary to ensure that the Department of Commerce is supporting and encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship effectively.

Agency Feedback Comment*The agency provides feedback during public meetings, and the public can find information on that feedback in the public meeting minutes.Narrative Description*Innovation and entrepreneurship are critical components of a sound and flourishing economy, and entrepreneurs—and the companies they start and grow—are the lifeblood of American prosperity.
