How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee advised the Director of the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) on matters related to the development and improvement of BEA's national, regional, industry, and international economic accounts. The committee did this by deliberating these issues at its semi-annual meetings.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee had a balanced membership, by considering such factors as geography, technical expertise, community involvement, and knowledge of programs and/or activities related to BEA ACM. Individuals were selected based on their expertise or experience in specific areas as needed by BEA ACM. The diverse membership of the Committee assured expertise reflecting the full breadth of the Committee’s responsibilities.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*Twice a year.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Advisory Committee was essential to ensure that the Federal Government’s GDP statistics meet the standards set by leaders in the fields of economics, business research, and business itself—that is, from a range of businesses: from Wall Street firms to economic forecasting firms to data-providing firms to other types of U.S. businesses. There were no other committees that can serve this function.

Recommendation RemarksPer EO 14217, the Secretary of Commerce has determined that the purposes for which the Bureau of Economic Analysis Advisory Committee was established have been fulfilled, and the committee has been terminated effective February 28, 2025.

It sought to help the BEA Director understand the technical needs of users in order to make the statistics more relevant and useful. Number Of Recommendations CommentNo formal recommendations were made. The BEA Advisory Committee met normally in session two times a year. BEA leadership generally presented 5 to 10 major methodological issues to the Committee each meeting and works to build consensus among members.
