How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee advised the Directors of the Commerce Department's two statistical agencies, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and the Census Bureau (Census), and the Commissioner of the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), on statistical methodology and other technical matters related to the collection, tabulation, and analysis of federal economic statistics. The committee did this by deliberating these issues at its semi-annual meetings.
How is membership balanced?*The Committee had a balanced membership, by considering such factors as geography, technical expertise, community involvement, and knowledge of programs and/or activities related to Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee (FESAC). Individuals were selected based on their expertise or experience in specific areas as needed by FESAC.

Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*The Advisory Committee was essential to provide expert guidance from multiple disciplines, jointly to the three agencies, on statistical methodology and other technical matters related to the collection, tabulation, and analysis of federal economic statistics that the three agencies produce. The guidance lead to improved communication, cooperation, and coordination of methodologies among the three sponsoring agencies. No other committee served this function.

It sought to assist the leadership in the three statistical agencies to understand the technical needs of federal economic statistics data users in order to make the statistics more relevant and useful. The public was able obtain information on agency feedback by watching the recording of the meetings, or reading the presentations on our website.Narrative Description*The work of the Committee supported the mission and strategic goals of the Department of Commerce and the Department of Labor with respect to the collection, tabulation, and analysis of federal economic statistics. The Committee's advice on statistical methodology, research needed, and other technical matters related to the collection, tabulation, and data analysis helped the departments to maintain and improve the accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of economic statistics. Committee members were individuals with demonstrated professional abilities and qualifications whose experience is directly relevant to the functions and tasks performed by these federal statistical agencies. Therefore, they were exceptionally qualified to provide advice about economic concepts and theories, new and developing statistical techniques, and emerging technologies that may help to accomplish the departments' goals. In addition, the Committee's collaborative sponsorship contributed to improved communication, cooperation, and coordination across the three sponsoring statistical agencies.
