How does cmte accomplish its purpose?*The Committee meets to review issues before the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (EVOS) Trustee Council and offers recommendations for consideration at the next council meeting.
How is membership balanced?*There are 10 members, including a representative for each of the following interests: aquaculture/mariculture, commercial fishing, commercial tourism, environmental/conservation, Native landownership, recreation, sport hunting/fishing, subsistence, science/technology, and public at large.
How frequent & relevant are cmte mtgs?*The Committee has typically met once or twice per year, depending on the issues before the Trustee Council and their desire to use the Committee for advice. The Trustee Council will meet less frequently in the future, resulting in fewer PAC meetings.
Why advice can't be obtained elsewhere?*While the Trustee Council does solicit public comments to inform their decisions, the use of the Committee as part of a comprehensive public participation program is an effective way for members representing various interests to deliberate on issues and provide informed input. The EVOS court settlement requires a public advisory group to advise the Trustee Council, which manages the restoration program.
Why close or partially close meetings?Meetings are open to the public. However, an administrative session was held to provide FACA and ethics training to committee members.
Recommendation RemarksOne meeting was held in FY 2025. This Committee continues to advise the EVOS Trustee Council, per the court-ordered consent decree and memorandum of agreement.
